The path to medicine chose me from an early age with different health problems I’ve faced. I was inspired by those who gave me amazing care and challenged to do better when I’ve discovered gaps in healthcare as well. I cherished every moment taking care of my grandfather with cancer as well, and I’m also grateful for his support in my pursuit of medicine.

I’ve struggled in the past with test anxiety, especially with the standardized exams. As a math major, I excelled in those classes and was challenged more in biology. People tell you to shoot for something you’re already doing well in, instead of going for your dreams. I decided to follow that dream I’ve had from such a young age and I’m forever grateful to the mentors in undergraduate that helped pave my way!

In medical school, I was part of a group called Equal Access Birmingham. We ran a free clinic that helped provide care to those who had the least access in our city. That experience helped shape the way I see the underserved and how truly inequitable healthcare is in this country. I hope to do more in my future career for those who need it most.

So far, I love all subspecialties in PM&R. That’s one of the reasons I chose it - all the variety, from inpatient to outpatient, EMGs to ultrasound-guided injections, and neuro to MSK-focused. I’m particularly drawn to the geriatrics community and women’s rehab issues, but I am excited to explore all PM&R has to offer!
