I am a first generation immigrant from the Philippines. I moved to the United States when I was 13-years-old.
I identify as underserved and underrepresented especially during my formative years growing up in the Bronx, NY.
I experienced culture shock as an immigrant and again as a 1st generation college attendee at Swarthmore College.
I was also a high school teacher in Bronx, NY for 7 years.

My path to medicine was non-linear. I was a high school biology teacher in Bronx, NY for 7 years as well as a Girl’s Basketball coach.
I eventually pursued medicine as it was always my goal and dream. I found that medicine provided no better way to take care of patients.

I found the ability to take care of patients that are under-represented and underserved in the Bronx where I grew up and my training as a rehabilitation physician gave me the perspective of how to truly impact the quality of life of patients.

I aspire to be able to take care of underrepresented populations in a community that is underserved such as the Bronx. I also want to continue working academically in sports medicine and discover my niche in the field (e.g. basketball medicine, soccer medicine, etc).
